Independent critics have landed somewhere more measured, though — Wine Enthusiast's blind tasting found it soft and even-keeled with dry cherry, mineral, and toasty notes rather than anything showstopping, and Drinkhacker gave it a B+, finding the strawberry character a bit over-the-top against a slightly doughy body, and specifically pointed people toward Piper-Heidsieck's more prestigious Rosé Sauvage (which scored an A from the same reviewer, plus 93 points from Wine Spectator) if they want something more distinctive.
