Grappa Stravecchia is the aged grappa from Distilleria Gualco, the family distillery in Silvano d'Orba, Piedmont, that has made grappa in direct-fire copper stills since 1870. It is distilled from the pomace of Dolcetto d'Ovada, the local red grape, and aged for three years in 1,000-liter oak tonneaux. The large barrels bring out complexity and smoothness without overloading the spirit with tannin. Bottled at 42% ABV in a 750ml bottle.The grappa is deep amber and fruit-forward, with spice and dried stone fruit, apricot and plum, layered over gentle oak and vanilla and finishing long and warm.
