Trendsetting｜Amaras Verde Mezcal Joven Espadin｜ Other Products

Verde is Amarás's invitation — a mezcal built, in the brand's words, to bring new drinkers into the category through a disruptive proposal, and the one The Whisky Exchange calls a fantastic entry point into the often smoky, vegetal land of mezcal. Amarás is one of the largest artisanal mezcal houses in Mexico, built on a "from seed to sip" cycle: for every agave it harvests it plants more, and its production is certified through Verde Momento. Verde is made in the Tlacolula valley of Oaxaca from eight-year-old espadín, cooked in a conical stone oven over oak, milled, fermented in pine vats, and copper-pot distilled, bottled at 42% ABV in the distinctive green bottle. Expect floral, herbal aromas of honeysuckle, peppermint, and jasmine on the nose, opening into cooked agave, burnt wood, and baking spice on the palate, with a surprisingly long, sweet, caramel-tinged finish. Mezcal Reviews found the Amarás espadín subtly perfumed with blossom that keeps unfolding, giving way to a touch of wood. Honest note: this is a deliberately approachable, lightly smoked mezcal — purists will find it gentle, and that's its job. For the drinker who's only had tequila, a Mezcal Margarita, a Paloma, a Mezcal Mule, or the brand's signature Verde and tonic with a grapefruit wedge, it's the green door into agave's smokier room.
