Blend #10 is one of the latest numbered blends from Alambique Serrano, the Krassel family's three-generation rum project on the steep hillsides of Santa María Tlalixtac in Oaxaca's Cañada region — a terroir that defies almost every expectation of where great cane spirit comes from. German immigrant Max Krassel started here with a handmade still on a coffee farm in the 1930s; today his grandsons Rommel, Axel, and William run the stills, and the numbered blends have become a running document of how the house style evolves. Everything starts with organic Java-varietal cane grown between 2,500 and 3,800 feet, hand-harvested and pressed in mobile mills carried by mule, fermented with wild yeast in pine and steel vats, then distilled on custom-built column and copper pot stills. The rums mature across environments from dry mountain bodegas to humid riverside cellars in barrels ranging from ex-bourbon to French oak, mezcal casks, and acacia, and each blend marries a different set of them. Blend #10 is bottled at cask strength — 56.7% ABV — with no additives, sugar, or coloring.
