The 15 is the Frigate to buy — Rum Ratings' most thorough reviewer of the line scored it a 9, alongside the 21, and called it the best buy in the lineup. Frigate Reserve began when a group of investors from Abaco and Walker's Cay in the Bahamas went to Panama, got access to the reserve casks of Don Pancho Fernández — the Cuban-born master blender behind Zafra and a prolific run of private-label rums — and, after months of trials, landed on a 21-year blend they considered their definitive rum. The 15 is that recipe dialed down to fifteen-year components: column-distilled from Panamanian molasses, aged in oak, bottled at 40% ABV in a long-necked onion bottle modeled on a 1600s rum bottle that washed ashore on Abaco. The goal, Frigate says, was one of the smoothest rums ever made — rich, smooth, with just enough sweetness to taste, no overwhelming fruit — and Rum Ratings' drinkers find a caramel nose with no acetone or burn and a palate that glides. Expect caramel, vanilla, toffee, almond, and gentle oak, rounded and soft, finishing long and warm. Honest note: another taster found it very sweet — amaretto-like almond and vanilla — and shelved it as a mixer; this is a soft, Spanish-style, sweet-leaning Panamanian sipper, not a dry cask-strength rum. A dollar per bottle went to Abaco's Hurricane Dorian recovery. For a cigar, a dessert pour, or the value pick of the line, it's the 15.Buy Frigate 15 Year Reserve Rum online with fast shipping right to your door.
